How to Replace an new audi key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is situated near the transmission's edge over the flywheel gear. It sends a message to the ECU through an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to connect the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can trigger spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of an issue with the chain or a jumped chain link in the upper timing chain. The code will not appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing can be a bit difficult since there are two connector pins and they have different functions however the best way to test it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read approximately 1000 ohms if the sensor is in full operation. If you're experiencing issues with this part, check for signs of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at a high speed I noticed a massive decrease in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. I took out the spark plugs this morning, three were soaked with gasoline and the fourth was unclean. When I start the engine, there are no sparks, i place a tissue on the top of each hole in the injector and the 3 drenched with gazoline leap out, however the 4th one stays closed. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I got zero ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is in another location.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The audi a1 car key can start when the G28 is unplugged and is running fine when it is plugged in however it has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when it is unplugged, shows temperatures of -49c. I also noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine.

I'm not sure what to do, but i feel i have pretty much completely ruled out all other possibilities. I'm afraid i may have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find an extra in a wrecking shop or parts store. Test them out to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and audi key fobs measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black end of the connector). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU
